From the Principal

April 2, 2008

Dear Parents and Guardians:

At last April is here. Perhaps it will stop snowing and allow the snow banks to melt away, letting crocuses and daffodils to emerge.   It has been a long winter and it is time to let the sunshine in.

The Kaler Book Fair and Community Dinner was a great success.   Thank you for coming out and supporting our school.   Our PTA did a marvelous job hosting our Community Dinner.   A special thanks to Rhoda Conley, the chef of the evening, who donated all of the food and her time.

Kindergarten Registration

If you have an incoming kindergartener for next year, please call Fran Peterson and set up a time to fill out the registration packet.   If you know of an incoming family, please tell them to call.

Redistricting Transition Plans

I mentioned in my last letter that I would keep you posted with transitions plans.   When the elementary principals met recently, we developed a schedule of activities to help with the transition.

  • Each elementary school will be hosting a lunch for students that are leaving their current home school.   At that luncheon, they will meet the new principal and perhaps the new guidance counselor of their new home school.
  • Each elementary school will also be hosting a visit during lunch/recess time for the incoming students to tour the new school, meet some students, enjoy the fine cuisine and playground.   I will be asking grade level teachers to suggest ambassadors for the visit.

Kaler’s schedule is:

  • April 4: A Welcoming Letter will be sent to incoming families from Skillin and Brown.
  • April 28: Kaler students going to Dyer will have lunch in the conference room with Mrs. Fleming.
  • April 30: Kaler students going to Brown will have lunch in the conference room with Mrs. Hawkins.
  • May 2: Ms. Lang and Ms. Palys will visit Brown School to meet the incoming students with ELL plans.
  • May 5: Kaler students going to Dyer will visit Dyer School.
  • May 6: Students coming to Kaler from Brown will visit Kaler at lunch/recess.
  • May 12: Ms. Lang and Ms. Palys will have lunch at Skillin School with incoming new Kaler students.
  • May 13: Kaler students going to Brown will visit Brown School.
  • May 19: Skillin students coming to Kaler will visit Kaler during lunch/recess time.
  • June 2: PTA will host a Meet and Greet for new parents.

Grandfather Waiver Form

If you have a fourth grader that would like to stay at Kaler next year, you should have received a Grandfather Waiver form in the mail from the Superintendent’s office.   That form needs to be filled out and returned to Kaler no later than April 17.   Please call if you did not receive this Grandfather Waiver form in the mail.

Enjoy the spring as it slowly emerges.

Sincerely,

Diane Lang

Proud to be Kaler Principal
